About this patch digitizing service

High-density patch digitizing with clean edge satins and merrow-friendly outlines that produce a perfectly finished patch.

A patch is embroidery you actually see up close, in your hand. Every stray thread and uneven edge is visible. StichDesign digitizes patches with dense fills, disciplined color changes and a final edge satin that gives your merrow border something clean to stitch against — so every patch off the line looks like the first.

Patches are embroidery you actually inspect

A garment logo is viewed at three feet, on a moving body, under variable light. A patch is inspected in the hand, one at a time, under the buyer's kitchen lamp. Every stray thread, uneven edge and density hole is immediately visible. Digitizing for patches is stricter than digitizing for garments because the tolerance for visible flaws is lower.

Every patch file we deliver includes a full-coverage fill (no fabric peek-through), a disciplined color-change sequence and a final edge satin that gives your merrow border or heat-seal cut something clean to follow. Round, shield, rocker, banner and custom shapes are all supported.

Edge satin for merrowed and laser-cut patches

Merrowed patches need an edge satin at least 2 mm inside the finished perimeter so the merrow border wraps cleanly. Laser-cut and heat-seal patches need an edge satin sitting exactly at the perimeter with a locked bar-tack at the endpoint. We digitize both correctly, but we need you to tell us which finishing you plan at order time.

For high-volume patch programs, we can also digitize a hot-cut file compatible with automated patch-cutting machines, so a single file drives both stitching and finishing.

Density and backing for patch stability

Patches are commonly sewn on twill, poly-cotton or synthetic patch cloth with a stabilizer backing. Each backing accepts a different density. We tune fills accordingly so patches lay flat and do not curl on removal from the hoop.

For rocker sets (top rocker, center patch, bottom rocker) we digitize the group as a matched trio with consistent stitch weight and identical edge treatment so the assembled set looks like one design.

Iron-on, sew-on, velcro and adhesive backings

The digitizing does not change based on backing, but the pre-production planning does. We flag any design elements that will not survive heat-press iron-on adhesive, and we advise on backing choice if you tell us the end use — jacket, vest, cap, bag or tactical panel.
